The painting surface I use is called "Aquabord", and it is manufactured by Ampersand Art Supply. It is a clay-coated masonite panel that gives me unprecedented freedom and control. Comparable to watercolor paper, this multimedia panel simulates the absorbency and texture of cold pressed paper but allows color to be lifted back to white easily while also leaving the richest color possible. My watercolors have never been so vibrant! After each piece is completed, I seal the surface with five coats of an acrylic spray fixative, followed by two coats of a UV filter polymer varnish. This enables my work to be framed without glass. For my more traditional works on paper, I use Arches 100% cotton rag watercolor paper.
