The painting surface I use is called "Aquabord", and it is manufactured by Ampersand Art Supply. It is a clay-coated masonite panel that gives me unprecedented freedom and control.  After each piece is completed, I seal the surface with five coats of an acrylic spray fixative, followed by two coats of a UV filter polymer varnish. This enables my work to be framed without glass. For my more traditional works on paper, I use Arches 100% cotton rag watercolor paper.

For my recent abstract work, I am exploring with oil and cold wax medium on Ampersand panels, which is a completely new way for me to create art. I love the creamy consistency of the paint and the lovely matte surface that results. These pieces take more time to create and to dry, so patience is definitely a virtue!

Tropical Florals and Foliage

These paintings were inspired the time I spent living on the North Shore of Kauai, as well as my life in the tropics of Florida and the Caribbean.

Koi

Koi seem to be everywhere I go, but my favorite ponds are at Tallahassee Nursery and at various spots on Kauai. I love their swirling colors against blue water and rock formations.

Other Florals and Foliage

North Florida is a wonderful place to grow flowers. Many of my irises come from my own garden.

Abstract Works

I am experimenting with abstraction, using water based media, and recently I have become obsessed with Oil and Cold Wax. I have always had elements of abstraction in my more realistic works, but these paintings give me the chance to go further with it.

Archived/Sold

These works have already sold. If you see something you like, we can discuss recreating it as a commission.
